How Much Money Does Krafton Commit to India in the BGMI Trial Approval?

The specifics of Krafton’s financial commitment in the BGMI trial approval have been disclosed, shedding light on the company’s dedication to the Indian gaming community. This commitment is not only a significant step in the context of the trial phase but also indicative of Krafton’s larger vision for the Indian gaming market.

In order to take advantage of India’s growing potential as a global gaming hub, Krafton, the developer of the well-known battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), announced on August 10 that it would invest $150 million in Indian gaming and interactive entertainment startups over the next two to three years.

This comes after a previous $140 million investment made by the company since March 2021 in 11 Indian firms. The South Korean gaming giant has invested over $290 million in the Indian gaming and tech startup ecosystem as a result of the new corpus, making it one of the nation’s most active strategic investors in recent years.

The decision also comes at a time when major local and international IT investors have tightened their purse strings due to an unsteady financial environment, including SoftBank and Tiger Global.

In March 2021, Krafton began its startup investment adventure in India with the esports organisation Nodwin. It typically invests in businesses in the gaming and entertainment industries at the Series A to Series B stage, including those in Esports, multimedia entertainment, content development, and audio platforms.
