How was Hermann Emil Fischer awarded the Noble Prize?

He proposed the idea to create the International Atomic Weights Commission in 1897. In 1899, Fischer was elected to be a Royal Society foreign member. In 1902, he received the Chemistry Nobel Prize “in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by his work on sugar and purine syntheses.”
